The Future of NZ's Tourism

  • B.linc Workshop Lincoln University Lincoln New Zealand (map)

As New Zealand’s lush landscapes and vibrant agricultural sector continue to attract visitors seeking immersive rural experiences, the topic of Agritourism is one with potential.

With a growing global interest in sustainable and authentic travel, New Zealand's Agritourism is poised to capitalise on the demand for farm-to-table experiences and eco-friendly practices. Farmers and rural communities increasingly recognise the potential of Agritourism as a supplemental source of income, fostering a symbiotic relationship between agriculture and tourism.

The integration of technology, such as virtual farm tours and interactive educational experiences, is likely to enhance the appeal of Agritourism in New Zealand, making it accessible to a broader audience. As the world becomes more conscious of the origins of food and the importance of sustainable practices, New Zealand's Agritourism is well-positioned to flourish, offering visitors a deeper connection to the land and the people who cultivate it.

ChristchurchNZ is the city’s sustainable economic development and city profile agency. Their purpose is to stimulate sustainable economic growth for a more prosperous Christchurch. They report that the tourism sector contributes a significant amount to the economic growth of Ōtautahi Christchurch and the surrounding regions – the city saw a 6.3 percent increase in spending by international visitors for the year end of September 2019 and they want to continue to encourage its strong growth as they believe employers are always keen to attract more people to roles in the industry.

Join us as we hear from Christchurch NZ as they share their expectations for the future of tourism in New Zealand, specifically in Canterbury, and what ‘Agritourism’ may look like.
