Showcasing AERU

  • B.linc Workshop Lincoln University Campus Lincoln New Zealand (map)

Continuing with our sustainability theme across this events series in 2023, we will hear from The Agribusiness and Economics Research Unit (AERU).

The AERU aims to exercise leadership in research for sustainable well-being. It was founded by the New Zealand Cabinet in August 1962, and has been an essential part of New Zealand’s science and innovation system ever since. It is entirely externally funded.

Distinguished Professor Caroline Saunders has been Director of the AERU since December 2001. Caroline leads a team of expert researchers and postgraduate students, who undertake research and deliver reliable knowledge commissioned by a wide range of domestic and international agencies, public sector departments, private companies and other organisations.

The difficulties experienced in selling [New Zealand’s] farm products overseas have emphasised the need for more research in agricultural economics. More detailed information is required to estimate the effects of the changes likely to be brought about by changes in overseas markets and other factors.” “That not one product leaves the country without a premium being attached to it.”

Saunders, who is the director of the Agribusiness & Economics Research Unit at Lincoln University (AERU), has dedicated her professional life to achieving that goal: creating value. First, by proving that consumers in some export markets would pay more for products with specific intangible attributes and then by showing New Zealand primary producers how to tap into that demand.

Join us to hear from Caroline Saunders as she shares the work that AERU undertake and how you can be involved.

The B.linc VIBE event series is an opportunity to hear from one of the wider Lincoln precinct companies about their business and to touch base, reconnect and build connections across the precinct.
