Want to see your big idea come to reality? Do you need pitching practice? Feeling a need to influence the type of environment you get to be in and around? Already buzzing with your own ideas on what the campus should look like? How about needing an opportunity to mix with peers and work together on something great? Just wondering what the heck a hackathon is?

We’d like your help to influence the future design and landscaping within the university and we need a mixture of skills, expertise and backgrounds to make it really great.

So what is a hackathon? Working together to work towards a common goal, involving all types of skills and backgrounds – in this circumstance, anything from complex architectural designs and landscaping practicalities to marvellous marketing concepts and perfect pitching practice. Think of it as a modern-day barn raising, where the collective energy of community members is harnessed into action.

All you need – one afternoon to bring your imagination, passion and ability to work as part of a team. In return –a fun afternoon where you get to practice and learn new skills, meet your peers  AND an opportunity to see your ideas come to life in the redesign of the campus.

About the Speaker: Mark Huxtable

Glasson Huxtable are the landscape architects responsible for undertaking the work within the campus.

“We take our cue from nature and the human connection to the land. Many of our projects are designed to relate to a regional context. The use of local indigenous materials and celebration of our shared history within modern design provides a connection to our own landscape and creates a deeper sense of belonging for people”.

The company has previous experience designing for tertiary institutions, including the Otago University masterplan, the bulk of which was completed in 2016. Mark has worked on a wide range of projects in the UK, Middle East and New Zealand, recent projects include a 2022 FIFA World Cup Stadium and New Brighton Seafront redevelopment, including the playground and salt-water hot pools, due to open in March.

“With regard to the Lincoln University Landscape Masterplan, we are very much in the information gathering and listening phase, so this is your opportunity to have your say and engage with the process”.

Open only for students & staff of Lincoln University.
