Exploring the Unknown with Rob McCallum

  • Waimarie Building, Inaka Room Lincoln University Campus Lincoln New Zealand (map)

Our planets surface is 70% ocean,  with an average depth of  4,000 metres.  Further down, the 'Hadal Zone’ is that area of the ocean between 6000m and 11,000m.  This vast ecosystem is considered the last frontier of exploration of Earth, with only 20 humans having reached the deepest point — the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean.

Join us for this one off event where we will hear from Visiting International explorer Rob McCallum and receiver of this year’s Lincoln University International Alumni medal.

Rob is considered a world authority on expedition management and is a founding partner of EYOS Expeditions which has completed over 1500 expeditions.  These award winning ‘world firsts’ include the deepest point in each of the world's five oceans, and all of the 10,000m+ trenches, as well as several shipwrecks such as RMS Titanic and Battleship Bismarck.

He is passionate about helping the next-generation of leaders with advice on complex high-risk projects, on topics such as resilience, mastering failure and the wide world of science/exploration/discovery.

Register for your space to hear Rob share what’s involved in diving to the deepest point of every ocean, and some of the learnings from these experiences.

Please note: This event is being held in the Inaka Room in the Waimarie Building, Lincoln University Campus
