Join us for the first event in 2024 for: Te Whare Wānaka o Aoraki Lincoln University Excellence Series. This series has been designed to showcase leadership in various disciplines including the opportunity to promote the University’s distinctive and impactful applied research. This series celebrates research excellence and promotes a public forum to a broader community, highlighting Lincoln University’s specialist land-based contribution to driving New Zealand’s prosperity and intergenerational wellbeing.
This talk will delve into the dynamic interplay between positive developments and challenges within New Zealand's food system. Amidst the intricate web of global trade pressures, environmental uncertainties, and evolving nutritional needs, the complexities faced by our food system will be discussed. Whilst highlighting the strengths that have contributed to its success, the critical issues that prevent us achieving food security will also be addressed. These issues have led to growing calls for a fundamental reset of our food system including the development of a national food strategy as well as the promotion of local food systems. The talk will evaluate the current debate about the future of our food systems, emphasizing the importance of fostering resilience in the face of evolving global and local pressures.

About Our Speaker
Professor Alan Renwick
Alan Renwick has been Professor of Agriculture Economics at Lincoln University since November 2015. Prior to moving to New Zealand, he worked in academic institutions in England, Scotland and Ireland. During his 30 year career he has undertaken research on a wide range of issues facing the agrifood sector for both government bodies and industry. Recently a key focus of his work has been on the economics of existing and novel land uses and the processes involved in land-use transformation and adaptation to climate change. He is currently Co-Chair of the Lincoln University Centre of Excellence in Transformative Agribusiness which aims to be at the international forefront of solutions that will enhance the sustainability of the food and fibre sectors
